BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Friday said that it was important for NDA allies to stick together to defeat the Congress. This comes amid speculations that the JD(U) is on the verge of walking out of its 17-year-old alliance with the NDA.

Earlier on Friday Nitish Kumar made his displeasure with the BJP apparent by saying that the party was posing hurdles for the JD(U).

“The current situation in the coalition is very difficult, we cannot give a final statement right now,” Kumar said.

He said he was advised by certain people not to break the 17-year-old alliance.

Waxing poetic, he described his situation by saying, “Log dua dete hain jeene ki, dawa karte hain marne ki.” (People wish for long life, but give medicines that bring about death.)

Kumar said the the decision cannot be taken in haste, but the BJP is creating hurdles for the JD(U).

The party is reportedly set to announce its separation from the BJP after deliberations today. While last minute talks are on between the two parties, the BJP’s decision not to back down from making Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi its 2014 campaign chief is reportedly the stumbling block in repairing ties.
