Nathuram Godse should have killed Nehru instead of Gandhi: RSS mouthpiece

Kerala’s RSS unit has published an article in its mouthpiece Kesari on the Congress’ efforts to allegedly distort history. But, in a startling statement, the author hinted that Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, chose the wrong target. The implication is that he should have targeted Jawaharlal Nehru. A report in The News Minute quotes the author as saying:

“If history students honestly verified the historical facts before partition and also the views of Godse, they may arrive at the conclusion that Godse had chosen the wrong target.”

Image courtesy: YouTube[/caption] The author, B Gopalakrishnan, was a BJP candidate in Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency in the last elections. He alleges that Nehru indulged in selfish politics during Partition. The article spoke about how Nehru clinically eliminated Gandhi from the last round of talks with the British for his petty ends.  Nehru merely wanted Gandhi’s khadar and cap as the symbol for the Indian National Congress, the article alleged. Another report in The Deccan Chronicle said that the RSS, through the article, has tried to prove that Godse was not a swayamsevak and that the Hindu outfit had nothing to do with the assassination of Gandhi. The Kesari article allegedly highlighted that Nehru was the sole reason behind major national tragedies, for instance the Partition and Gandhi’s assassination.

“Nehru’s selfish politics was behind national tragedies like partition and Gandhi murder.”

Gopalakrishnan goes on to say how Godse was a better person than Nehru because the latter psychologically killed Gandhi.

“Godse pulled the trigger on Gandhiji’s chest after a respectful bow. It was unlike Nehru who stabbed Gandhiji from behind and greeted him from front,” Gopalakrishnan argues.

The Kesari article created quite a stir in Kerala. Home minister Ramesh Chennithala has called for a probe and told the state police to take appropriate action against the magazine. Criticising BJP and the RSS, VM Sudheeran, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president, said that the BJP, and not Congress, distorts facts and history. “After the Modi government came to power, consistent attempts are being made to glorify hardcore Hindutva ideologues and Gandhiji’s killer Nathuram Godse. It also displays the intolerance of Modi towards Nehru and his family,” Sudheeran was quoted as saying by The News Minute.
