Narendra Modi arrives in Aizwal to address rallies, will inaugurate projects in Mizoram and Meghalaya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday arrived in Aizawl in Mizoram to address public rallies and inaugurate development projects in the state, said media reports.

The prime minister will also be visiting neighboring state Meghalaya.

"The enchanting and effervescent Northeast calls. Looking forward to visiting Mizoram and Meghalaya tomorrow, where various development projects will be inaugurated. These projects will add impetus to the development journey of the Northeast," he tweeted ahead of the visit. Modi said it is his privilege to dedicate the Tuirial hydropower project to the nation in Aizawl.

The prime minister said, in Shillong, he will inaugurate the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura Road. The project will improve connectivity and further economic growth. He will also address a public meeting in Meghalaya.

"We see immense potential in the Northeast and are committed to doing everything for the region’s overall progress,” the prime minister said.

He also said the Ministry of Department of Northeast Region has set up a Rs 100 crore Northeast Venture Capital Fund.

"Tomorrow I will be distributing cheques to entrepreneurs from this fund. A spirit of enterprise among the Northeast’s youth augurs well for the empowerment of the region," he said.

The prime minister is scheduled to address a public meeting and inaugurate a hydroelectric project at Aizawl in the morning before heading to Shillong later in the day, Mizoram's state protocol officer David L Pachuau said.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said Modi was likely to land at the Upper Shillong helipad around 1 pm.

He will address a rally, announce the opening of a party office and unveil a plaque for the Shillong-Tura National Highway, Dkhar said.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Shillong for the prime minister's visit, district SP Davis Marak said.

BJP leader Bashai Khongwir said leaders from different parts of Meghalaya will be attending the rally on Saturday.

The party volunteers have geared up to ensure that the programme turns out to be a success, Khongwir said.
