Former BJP president and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Rajnath Singh called Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a popular leader deserving a massive victory while slamming the Congress as simply carrying the Gandhi surname only.
“Congress has ditched the self-reliance principle of Gandhiji. They are carrying Gandhi surname only. The works of Gandhi are being carried forward by Narendra Modi here in Gujarat," a Indian Express report quoted Singh as saying in an election rally in Bhavnagar on Sunday.
The former BJP chief also trained his guns on the national leadership of the Congress while attacking the Centre for inflation, corruption and FDI in retail.
Singh said Modi has been fast growing in the popularity chart from being a regional leader to a global personality.
"Modi is popular not only in Gujarat but also across India. He is fast gaining popularity across the world now. You all must strengthen the hands of your charismatic CM. You all should ensure that Narendrabhai makes a hat-trick in these assembly elections," the Indian Express report quoted Singh as saying.
