Mayawati hopes opposition attacks will wake 'sleeping cadres'

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today asked the Bahujan Samaj Party to get ready for the 2012 assembly elections even as opposition parties in the state continue to attack her government. “The more they (opposition) attack the Bahujan Samaj Party, we become even more determined to win the elections. It is good that their attacks are getting harsher by the day. This will wake up our cadres who are still sleeping and motivate them to fight for the party,” she said, addressing a rally in Lucknow on the occasion of the 55th death anniversary of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. Urging the crowd to follow Ambedkar’s footsteps, she sought to reach out to all sections of the society crossing beyond her usual vote bank of Dalits, and appealed to them to vote her party to power again. Mayawati said the BJP was not secular, holding them responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid mosque on 6 December 2004, and said that the Congress and Samajwadi Party had engaged in massive misrule while they were in power.
