Ranked one of the best comic-cons, the San Diego Comic-Con got a wonderful start when Marvel and Netflix decided to release the teaser trailers for their three upcoming shows, which are also fan favourites. The 22 July panel at the Comic Con had these major reveals: Luke Cage Teaser Trailer We have already seen and loved Mike Colter (also Lemond Bishop from Good Wife) play Luke Cage aka Power Man on the first season of Jessica Jones. [caption id=“attachment_2908660” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Image courtesy: Flickr/CC[/caption] Now that the damaged superhero has his own show, there will be more showing off of his superpowers of immense strength and unbreakable skin in action. We all know Cage’s backstory from the first season of Jessica Jones: his wife was killed, and he plans to avenge her. That means, according to the trailer, lowering the boom on some street-level bad guys. Whether or not there will be a crossover with Jessica Jones remains to be seen. The trailer shows Luke, a bit comically, showcase his powers and is perfectly soundtracked with ODB’s ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya’. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on 30 September 2016.
Iron Fist Teaser Trailer Though a little more vague than the Luke Cage teaser, the 50-second teaser gives us a sneak peak into the life of Rand (played by Finn Jones) and his origin story. As a young boy he loses his family and finds his way into the magical Himalayan city of K’un-Lun. The origin story (thankfully) stays true to its comic book form where there’s a young Rand drifting in and out of consciousness in the snow. We also see a grown-up Rand wandering the streets of New York City, cycling in and out of a hospital, signaling that this adventure will show him struggling to make sense of where he’s been, what he’s been through, and what his next steps will be. The show is set to premiere in early 2017.
The Defenders mini-series logo reveal The most abstract trailer of the lot was for the team-up miniseries The Defenders. The abstract teaser for the series, which is set to release in early 2017, has Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are’, set to a voice over by Stick (Scott Glenn). The series is set to follow the adventures of ‘outsider’ heroes, whose original incarnation was led by Doctor Strange and included the likes of The Hulk and The Silver Surfer. They first appeared as the Defenders in Marvel Feature #1 in December 1971.
