A group of armed ultras struck at the house of Dasuru Dharua at Bara village under Kartanpalli gram panchayat around Thursday midnight and took him away before shooting him dead, police said.

Dharua's body, with gunshot injuries, was found on the outskirts of the village today early morning, they said, adding, the ward member candidate had, earlier, been warned by the Maoists against contesting the ensuing panchayat polls.

The red rebels had, earlier, also warned the tribals of this district to refrain from participating in the three-tier panchayat election, and had put up posters in some places here, asking people not to contest or even vote in the rural polls.
