After a surprise decision by former BJP president Nitin Gadkari not to contest for the post of the party president due to allegations of corruption in the functioning of a conglomerate headed by him, Rajnath Singh seems to have emerged a consensus candidate to head the party.

Singh seems to have the backing of the RSS and the BJP, given his past experience in heading the party. But is there still a twist in the tale? Will Yashwant Sinha still contest the election, given his initial opposition was only to Gadkari’s nomination? Will Mahesh Jethmalani still contest as a ‘token’ candidate?
