With elections to the Karnataka Assembly exactly a month away, campaigning in the southern state is gathering steam as political parties are gradually roping in movie stars to campaign on their behalf.
Kannada actress Tara has already been campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party while the party has Hema Malini and Smriti Irani in the line up. The two will join the campaign trail in the fortnight before the polls.
The Congress is also not behind when it comes to inducing star power to their campaign.
Actors Ramya and Bhavana are adding the glamour quotient to the Congress campaign in the state. Veteran actor Ambareesh will fight the elections from Mandya constituency in a Congress ticket. Union Minister for Tourism and Congress leader Chiranjeevi will campaign for the party in the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border.
Actress Pooja Gandhi, who is getting associated with elections for the third time, is campaigning for mining baron B Sriramulu from the BSR Congress.
"Cinema and cricket stars bring in the oomph factor to the campaign," said Congress MLA from Byatarayanapura constituency Krishna Byre Gowda.
However, former state chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy believes that the presence of stars does not necessarily mean conversion into votes.
"Glamour will attract the people not necessarily convert them into votes. Our party workers are the real celebrities of our party," said Kumaraswamy.
