Former Home Minister of Gujarat Amit Shah will be contesting in the assembly elections. The BJP parliamentary board made this announcement on Wednesday. He will be contesting from Naranpura.
For Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah is a key man. Shah is known for his dexterous management of resources especially during polls.
However, Shah has remained in jail for 26 months till September-end over his alleged involvement in the Tulsiram Prajapati encounter case. But with the CBI preparing to approach the Supreme Court, Shah’s freedom was curbed at the most crucial time.
The CBI had sought lifting of stay on criminal proceedings against Shah on 27 November and the Supreme Court said it cannot pass the order without hearing the parties.
With Gujarat going to polls on 13 and 17 December, the uncertainty over Shah’s availability during that time had become a worry for the BJP and Modi.
