The Prime Minister's Office today tweeted the Action Taken Report by the Ministry of Home Affairs amid massive outrage and protest by citizens over the Delhi gangrape.
The report has the list of eight steps taken by the government to ensure safety of women.
The steps include a new three digit helpline number for women by the Telecom Ministry.
The government has also constituted the Justice Verma Committee to look into possible amendments to the criminal law for the quicker trial and enhanced punishment for criminals accused of committing sexual assault of extreme nature against women.
The government and the Delhi police have faced widespread criticism because of the brutal rape of a 23-year-old paramedic student on a moving bus in Delhi on 16 December.
