A few hours before the 2013 assembly election gets over, the BJP seemed confident of a great result in its favour. While a number of exit poll predictions are showing the possibility of hung assembly in Delhi, the party is not ruling out the possibility of approaching AAP for an alliance. The party apart from claiming victory, is also saying that the last few visits of Narendra Modi have had an immense impact on today’s election. “Modi’s campaigns have made the voters realise that the incumbent government was not worth voting for one more time,” said Goel. [caption id=“attachment_1267059” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Will Kejriwal want an alliance with the BJP?[/caption] The BJP, however, conceded that the presence of AAP has made it difficult for the party, which otherwise could have had a landslide victory on the face of Delhi’s anti incumbency wave. “No doubt AAP has done extremely well as a first time contender,” said a senior state BJP leader. The state chief of the party Vijay Goel said that the party is always open to alliance with ’like minded people’. “We are hoping for a majority but clearly the anti incumbency votes are also going to the Aam Admi Party and others. If any hung assembly situation arises, we will be ready to go for an alliance with any like minded party,” said Goel. The party however, accepts that it might not be able to win the New Delhi seat. “No matter, what happens to the Congress party, Sheila Dikshit Will not lose from her own constituency. The party has no hope from that seat,” claimed a party insider who did not want to be named. The party claimed that the large turnout that Delhi witnessed today will be the key to the victory for it. “It was an election for change. Our inclusive policies and positive politics have made sure that all section of the society has come out to vote and the exit polls are already reflecting what can be the outcome of this,” said Vijay Goel. The party sources however mentioned that according to internal reports, the party has failed to make an impact among the youth voters. “The apolitical approach of the Aam Aadmi Party has made sure they win over a large number of young voters, who have been attracted by AAP’s anti corruption image,” the source said. The Aam Aadmi Party has completely ruled out the possibility of an alliance with either the Congress or BJP. It will be interesting to see if they stick to that stand.
