A CPI(M) MLA has been murdered in West Bengal’s Burdwan district.
The victim identified as Pradip TA was allegedly hacked to death by Trinamool Congress (TMC) members during an industrial workers’ rally in Burdwan.
Trinamool activists reportedly attacked a CPM rally in Burdwan district leading to the death of former a CPM MLA on the spot. Another CPM leader succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Reacting immediately after the murder, the CPI(M) blamed the Mamata Banerjee led government for the political murders in the state.
“Responsibility squarely lies with the government, and particularly with the chief minister,” Suryakanta Mishra, leader of opposition in West Bengal, said.
Four TMC workers have been detained by the local police in connection with the murder.
BJP and Congress have condemned the attacks.
Trinamool meanwhile has denied the allegations and is expected to hold a press conference soon.
