Challenge for Narendra Modi: The Leuva Patels of Saurashtra

by Nov 23, 2012

Convincing the Leuva Patels is increasingly becoming a challenge for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as unhappiness of the Patel sub-caste is already expressed with former BJP leader Keshubhai Patel quitting the party and forming a political outfit of his own.

The Leuva Patels may impact poll results in 36 out of the 52 seats in the Saurashtra region, a IBN7 report said today.

The report said that around 20 percent of Saurashtra voters are from the community.

"The BJP had won 44 seats out of 58 seats in Saurashtra when Keshubhai become Gujarat's chief minister. The region played a crucial role in Modi's victories in the previous Assembly elections too"—the IBN7 report said.

Time will tell what difference Keshubhai's Gujarat Parivartan Party will make in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
