Yesterday both the houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, had to be adjourned since the Opposition, spearheaded by the BJP, were demanding the resignation of the PM Manmohan Singh on the coalgate issue. Ravi Shankar Prasad, spokesperson of the BJP, said that the demanding the resignation is the only option left for the opposition. Options like vote of confidence motion would not make sense, Prasad said, since the Government would use CBI to put pressure on smaller parties.
“The most dependable ally of the UPA government, the CBI. should not become extremely operational in manipulating a collusive majority in favour of this government as the they have been doing,” Prasad said to CNN-IBN.
“We don’t want the CBI to be put to abusive use again. The prime job of CBI today is whenever the government is in trouble, to manipulates things,” he added.
Prasad accused that CBI puts pressure on smaller parties through corruption cases against its party members.
“We don’t want this government to survive vote of confidence through the shoulders of CBI by manipulation smaller parties through corruption cases,” he said.
Prasad also pointed out CBI’s reluctance to question P Chidambaram, the Finance Minister, in the 2G case.
“If Jaswant Singh can be examined, CBI is reluctant to examine Chidambaram in the 2G case” he said.
