Rahul Gandhi, general secretary of the Congress party, today said he will play a more active role in the party and the government but left it up to the party leadership to decide what it would be.
While in Parliament to cast his vote in the presidential poll, Rahul met with reporters and said a decision had been taken for him to play a more active role in the party and the government, CNN IBN reported.
Rahul said that he had concentrated on his constituency and Youth Congress unit of the party so far but was willing to play a more important role, refusing to specify what that role would be.
He said the final decision on what role he would play would be decided by the Congress party leadership and the Prime Minister.
His statements come a day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that Rahul would need to take a decision on what role he wanted to play in the party.
Congress leaders like Salman Khurshid and Digvijay Singh have been saying recently that they would like Rahul to play a more active role in the party. Rahul had not responded to any of the statements in the past.
