BJP welcomes Team Anna’s decision to join politics

Aug 4, 2012

New Delhi:  BJP has welcomed the decision of Team Anna to form a political party with the aim of fighting corruption, misgovernance and misrule, saying it supports any fight against these ills.

“BJP has always stated that our Constitution permits every individual and group to form their own political party in terms of their own ideology or thinking about problems of the country. If Team Anna has elected to offer a political alternative, it is a welcome decision,” BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

He said his party has been campaigning against the misrule, misgovernance and rank corruption be it in 2G spectrum, CWG or Adarsh Housing Society scams which have become the “benchmark of Congress-led UPA”.

“Today if other formations also wish to campaign on this issue, we welcome that. BJP is committed to have an effective Lokpal and the government must ensure that the Bill is cleared by the Select Committee at the earliest and passed in the present session of Parliament. For that, the BJP is making a formal appeal,” Prasad said.

He charged that Congress is responsible for the present mess as it has ruled India for 55 of the 65 years since Independence. “The gross misrule, stinking corruption, failing economy and the great sense of distrust is directly referable to the gross mis-governance, lack of credible leadership and sense of aloofness of the government towards the plight of the people of this country,” Prasad said. He claimed that BJP shall continue to campaign against this “gross misrule”.
