A new
report on NDTV has stated that the BJP will announce Narendra Modi as their Prime Ministerial candidate in September. The report states that a crucial meeting of the BJP’s top leadership with the RSS is scheduled for tomorrow and after the RSS nod, BJP hopes to reconcile differences over Mr Modi’s appointment by the end of August. This is not the first news report that claimed to know when Modi will be announced as the BJP’s PM candidate. Previously the Economic Times, had reported that Modi would be formally named as the PM candidate by the end of July. However, no such announcement has taken place. Economic Times had also reported that Modi could be a candidate in two places in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. The report said that BJP was considering Varanasi, Lucknow and Allahabad as possible constituencies for the Gujarat Chief Minister. PTI[/caption] Lucknow was the constituency for former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee, while Varanasi has a strong Hindutva pull which could work for Modi, who was recently quoted as saying he is a ‘Hindu nationalist.’ Recently party president Rajnath Singh had also praised the Gujarat Chief Minister, saying that Modi was without doubt the most popular leader in the country. Narendra Modi is currently BJP’s Election Campaign Committee Chief for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and the Gujarat strong man is seen an the strongest PM candidate for the party. The question, however, is when will BJP formally name Modi as its PM candidate? For now, it seems like the wait could be two months long.
