Hyderabad: The TRS government was not willing to celebrate 17 September as the 'Telangana Liberation Day' under pressure from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM), the BJP alleged on Friday.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao favoured celebration of Telangana Day before the Assembly elections, but now he had changed his stand under pressure from the
AIMIM, said Telangana BJP president K Laxman in Hyderabad.
The BJP has been demanding that 17 September be celebrated officially as Telangana Liberation Day, as on this day in 1948 the Hyderabad state ruled by the Nizam merged with the Indian Union.
"If there is any government in India or in the world which cannot celebrate its Independence Day, it is the Telangana government," a BJP release quoted Laxman as saying at a party meeting on the 'Liberation Day'.
The governments of Karnataka and Maharashtra organise celebration of this day in the respective areas of the two states which were part of the Hyderabad state, so why the Telangana government can not do it, Laxman asked.
The BJP would organise a rally on 17 September "to expose the government", he said.
