Shortly before a press conference addressed by the BJP's top leaders to criticise the functioning of the CBI, hundreds of Congress workers protested outside the BJP headquarters in the national capital about comments made against the Prime Minister.
The protesters jumped over police barricades and had to be pushed back by water cannons.
Protesters shouted slogans against the BJP but did not indulge in clashes with the police.
The protests come after a sustained campaign by the BJP seeking the Prime Minister's resignation over allegations related to the coal block allocation scandal.
“The PM must take responsibility for the role of the PMO officials in tampering of the CBI draft report on the Coalgate prior to submission to the apex court as it is crystal clear that these officials were trying to save the skin of their master,” the BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahanwaz Hussain had said earlier.
The BJP youth wing had earlier held a protest outside the Prime Minister's residence demanding his resignation and had to be dispersed by water cannons.
