The Bhartiya Janata Party workers in the city celebrated the unprecedented victory in the Lok Sabha elections by distributing sweets, hoping that Narendra Modi’s win will boost the market. At the state BJP office in Nariman Point, the activists celebrated the victory by distributing sweets and dancing with the dhol tasha. Big LED screens were also put up at the party office for activists and people to see live results. In the morning, BJP activists put up banners at several places in the city, congratulating Modi. This is the victory of the people of this country. It is much required victory for this country. People have realized that dynasty is not good the country and has to be run by a democratic party. Now, the celebrations will be for next five years. The result is the clearly indicate that the people want development,” said Vinay Ghia, a BJP activist. A group of party workers in South Mumbai also cut a huge, 10 kg cake with an image of Modi and ’lotus’ on it to celebrate the victory. Helium baloons were also released by the party workers as a salute to Narendra Modi. Bhavik Dand, an investment professional said, “People of this country have voted for development. We hope that Modi will work for development of the country like he did in Gujarat. New businesses and start-ups should be give support and boost the market.” He added that Modi should strike balance between urban and rural development. “There should not only be pro-poor policies but also for the middle class from urban and semi-urban areas,” he said. “Modi should carry out tax reforms and encourage business’s to bring transparency in work and pay taxes. He should eliminate black money from economy and ensure that everything is accounted for taxes,” said Tejasvani Prakash, an MBA student and resident of Wadala.
