Akhilesh Yadav: Law and order our responsibility from today

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said that law and order is the priority of the new government. “Law and order is our priority and from today its our responsibility. Till now we have been levelling allegations on others”, Akhilesh told reporters in his maiden press conference after taking oath as UP CM. He said that the party was grateful to the people for saving SP from all ills by giving it a majority. “It is the responsibility of the SP government to implement its election manifesto among the people and things it said before them”, he said. Akhilesh said UP was celebrating democracy and there were “restrictions” during the previous government. “A lot of injustice and harassment was done in the previous regime. UP, which could have marched ahead lagged behind. Institutionalised corruption on such a large scale never happened,” he alleged. From what Akhilesh said, it was clear that the Samajwadi Party had been working to save democratic values. “SP will work with the intention to check corruption and implement its election manifesto,” he added. On SP poll promises that those involved in corruption would be identified and enquiry would be done, he said, probes against some were already with the Lokayukta. “We will find out what type of corruption was committed in which department”, he said. Assuring that whatever his party had said about fighting corruption would be fulfilled, Akhilesh said, action would be taken against officers involved in plundering and injustice. On being asked from where the new government would arrange funds for its populist announcements, including free laptops, tablet computers and unemployment allowance, Akhilesh said, “arrangements will be made”. “If money can be arranged for stones and statues, then these are the schemes related to education and allowance. These are welfare schemes and arrangements will be made”, he added. To a querry on the rumours about the SP joining the government at the Centre, he said, it would be decided by Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav). “We have formed the government in UP…first let things settle here”, he added. The new CM also said that the system of Janata Darbar would be restarted soon. PTI
