Akbaruddin Owaisi's words at set of public gatherings might have been dubbed a 'hate speech' by many, but according to his brother and MP Asaduddin Owaisi it was is merely a speech "demanding religious equality" and his arrest was a conspiracy against the Owaisis .
In an exclusive interview to Rajdeep Sardesai on CNN-IBN, he said, "This (Akbaruddin's speech) is a speech demanding religious and political equality."
"What were you doing when Atal Bihari Vajpayee said in Goa 'train kisne jalayi thi?' (referring to the train burning incident in Godhra) Also what were you doing when slogans were hurled 'ek dhakka aur do, babri masjid tod do' ?" he asked.
Accusing the media of being biased and prejudiced against MIM, Owaisi said, "CNN-IBN gave live coverage to the funeral of the person who said that muslims are cancer in India," referring to the funeral of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray whose funeral procession in November received massive media attention.
According to him, the media was being unfair to his brother and the MIM by harping on the words 'hate speech' continuously. He said, "If the media is going to have a trial in the studios everyday, then what can I do? Can I ask if Rajdeep Sardesai (the anchor in this case) is the judge of the Adilabad sessions court (where Owaisi's case will come up for hearing)?"
Akbaruddin Owaisi is presently in judicial custody after he was arrested in connection with three FIRs being filed against him for the speeches that he made.
Asaduddin called the tirade against him a 'conspiracy' he said that it was the handiwork of a section of the media and right wing elements in social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. He also accused the state government of being complicit in this act.
"In one and a half years, there have been 16 communal incidents. Several Muslims have been stabbed during the time of the Bakr-Id. The state government has not arrested the right wing elements who have caused this problem,"he said.
