Agatha hopes NCP won’t ditch Sangma’s presidential ambitions

Minister of State for Rural Development, Agatha Sangma said today that she hoped that her party Nationalist Congress Party will take a favourable view of her father, PA Sangma’s candidature, as the next occupant of the Raisina Hill palace.

“The party will hopefully support,” Sangma told Times Nowwhen asked if she would be in a catch-22 situation owing to the candidature of her father as the country’s next president.

“Naveen Patnaik and Jayalalithaa have extended their support to him. My opinion really doesn’t count here,” she said.

On being asked if her father is the right candidate for the nation’s highest office, Sangma said,”Not as a daughter but as one who considers him (PA Sangma) as a leader, he has a long way to go in his service to the nation. He has the potential to be the president as he is an eminent and dynamic personality.”

The minister hoped that the UPA will take a collective decision supporting her father.

I personally hope that it is in the positive side,” she said.
