AAP has turned political language into filth, writes BJP IT cell chief

Aam Aadmi Party came to power on the promise of a new kind of politics. Couple of years down the line, this new brand of politics is exposed in the public discourse. The filth which has accompanied the AAP brand of politics is unprecedented, unparalleled and unheard of in the past. Politicians are not known to be the most well-behaved people and occasionally some of them cross the line of decency. Most of these instances end with some form of action — in the form of apologies, admonitions or expulsions. But with the advent of AAP, indecency, vulgarity and slander has got an institutional role in public discourse. Never before, has the public discourse in India been so vitiated. Our intellectuals, fretting over abuse from random trolls on the one hand, are surprisingly and inexplicably silent on this institutional massacre of decency by AAP. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is known to have unrealistic ambitions but he is also low on self confidence. This is because he lacks experience and vision, he feels that the only way to stay relevant is by continuously attacking a colossal figure in Indian politics i.e. Narendra Modi. And quite frankly, the BJP just lacks the talent and depth of language to give it back to AAP on their turf. The official Twitter handle of the Aam Aadmi Party and it’s office-bearers can easily give local goons a run for their money in lowering the standards of public discourse. Here are some examples of how AAP leaders and their supporters use their Twitter handles: AAP leader Ashish Khaitan held a press conference attacking the Modi govt because the Supreme Court of India refused to grant anticipatory bail to Pradeep Sharma on charges of money laundering and this despicable hashtag ensued. #ModiAndMadhuri

We do not oppose charges on Pradeep Sharma. The question is how Modi Ji is running 'Daman Chakra' in country#ModiAndMadhuri

The following 2 trends seem to be decided directly by Arvind Kejriwal! #CowardModi

CBI raid in Delhi Secretariat shows Modi's desperation & frustration towards Delhi Govt's success on poll promises. #CowardModi

— AAP (@AamAadmiParty) December 15, 2015

CBI's raid on CM's office under the excuse of raiding office of Rajendra Prasad is in poor judgement.

Every passing day #CowardModi's attempts to obstruct work of Delhi Govt get more desperate.

वैसे-वैसे मोदी पर से उनका विश्वास उठेगा !
Be Positive & Think Positive !!#12thPassModi

Unfortunately (or should I say fortunately?), I cannot find the twitter feeds of the conversations AAP trolls indulged in using the last few hashtags cited above. It is one thing to politically oppose Narendra Modi, which is a legitimate right of the opposition in a democracy. But it is entirely wrong to ignore the slanderous, slimy abuse which is heaped on the most popular leader in India. AAP is free to take him on politically as they like, but such language is just not acceptable. It is important that anyone who has the basic sense of civility and believes in civilized discourse should stand up against it to safeguard the basic tenets of decency and civility in public life.
