Meira Kumar came down strongly on the opposition MPs today who were demanding an adjournment of the House unless they get an assurance from the Home Minister that Afzal Guru, prime accused in the 13/11 Parliament attack case will be hanged.
The remarks came on a day when the nation is marking the 11th anniversary of the terror attack that stunned the nation.
She said, shouting from her seat, "Today 13 people sacrificed their lives, they did not sacrifice their lives for this."
Amid huge uproar and chaos due to opposition MPs crying hoarse, she declared, "Today the house will not be adjourned."
However, BJP could not be deterred from its stance even after this move. Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj said, "A true tribute to the martyrs would be if the Home Minister announces the hanging of Afzal Guru. The Home Minister should make a statement in the House today. Only then will the martyrs and their families get justice."
