One Dilip Kumar, two Bachchans and three warring Khans
Dilip Kumar celebrated his 89th birthday at his Pali Hill home on 11 December, with his wife, Saira Banu playing hostess to the numerous guests who attended the party. The party had been planned months in advance and this was the party Dilip Saab had invited the late Dev Anand to. After years of not speaking to each other, the invite had been extended towards Dev Saab in lieu of putting the past behind and moving forward. But, it was not meant to be, as Dev Saab passed away on 3 December 2011. But Dilip Saab’s birthday did manage the impossible – all three warring Khans – Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh - forgot their differences and turned up to wish the veteran actor! No photo-ops together of course, but a big coup nevertheless. Dimple Kapadia, possibly the biggest recluse in the film industry, too attended the party with estranged husband, Rajesh Khanna, who is unrecognizable nowadays with his salt and pepper beard. Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan came by with their son Abhishek. Interestingly, new daddies, Abhishek and Aamir Khan came without their wives, Aishwarya and Kiran Rao. It was one of the most well attended functions in recent times. Great food, old world hospitality and charm, ghazals and shairi and a house packed with family and friends – some old, some new - no better way to toast one of India’s finest actors on his special day! And now, the thespian, @thedilipkumar has taken to Twitter, and his fans are more than delighted to interact with their idol via the social networking medium.
