Images: Sharapova, Serena and the noisy pack

Jan 26, 2012

Maria Sharapova’s shriek when she hits the ball is “pretty annoying” and “just too loud,” according to one of her rivals. She was long thought of as the heir to Seles' grunting throne and though she has the game to (somewhat) match Seles' skills on the court, her vocal prowess can't compete with Michelle Larcher de Brito, who once had her grunts measured at 109 decibels. The other notable grunters in women's tennis are Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka.
