Court orders Russia to pay $50 bln for seizing Yukos assets

MOSCOW/LONDON/AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - An international arbitration court ruled on Monday that Russia must pay $50 billion for expropriating the assets of Yukos, the former oil giant whose ex-owner Mikhail Khodorkovsky fell foul of the Kremlin. Finding that Russian authorities had subjected Yukos to politically-motivated attacks, the panel made an award to a group of former Yukos shareholders that equates to more than half the entire fund Moscow has set aside to cover budget holes. Russia, whose economy is on the brink of recession, said it would appeal the ruling by the Dutch-based panel, which judges private business disputes. #aut #cnt #content #cookie #rch #rco #typeof-registered #typeof-social #values #wcntn #Yahoo!

The reason behind this surge is the expansion of low-end smartphones by global players that has helped them make inroads into emerging markets in the developing countries like India. "The Asia-Pacific region holds the most number of smartphone users while Europe and North America have the highest portion of people holding the high-tech handsets among all mobile phone users," the report said. #Ajax #Bangladesh #Chrome #Cinema #Crime #Education #Health #India #NewsTracker #Politics #Religion #science
