Following a petition, Penguin Books India has agreed to withdraw all published copies of Wendy Doniger’s The Hindus. They have reportedly also decided to destroy all remaining copies of the book they have. Wendy Doniger has confirmed in an email to Firstpost that the book is being taken out of publication in India. [caption id=“attachment_1384151” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  The cover of the Hindus[/caption] A petition that was signed by more than 10,000 people asks Penguin Group for an apology for the publication of the ‘factually incorrect and offensive’ book. “The Hindus: An Alternative History is rife with numerous errors in its historical facts and Sanskrit translations. These errors and misrepresentations are bound and perhaps intended to mislead students of Indian and Hindu history,” reads the petition. The petition also points out to the errors in the book.
