Gigolos are going mainstream in the United States. Or at least, that’s what ABC News claims in a recent report on this new trend of “affluent and educated” women who are no longer ashamed to shop for love the perfect “boyfriend experience” – or just “straight dirty sex”, as a Las Vegas madam puts it.
“I definitely don’t want somebody telling me what I should be doing with my money, or my time, or anything like that,” says Heather Smith, a “39-year-old single business manager at a Fortune 500 company” who spends $500 to $1,000 a month on gigolos.

There’s even a new Showtime reality show, Gigolos, that features an escort agency Cowboys 4 Angels that ostensibly provides dates, not actual sex – though Smith claims to have slept with five of its employees.

Employed at the Shady Lady brothel outside Las Vegas, Bestin views his, ahem, work as striking a valiant blow against the double-standards of Nevada law which outlaws male prostitution.
“I’m basically doing what Rosa Parks did when she decided to sit at the front of the bus instead of the back, or what Gandhi did when he had a sit-down protest against the British Embassy,” he tells ABC News (click on the video).” “I’m basically trying to reset social norms.”
We wonder what would upset Bapuji more: the offense to his celibacy or Bestin’s poor grasp of history?
