It was a wine bottle that did it. The Bridget Jones Facebook page, run by Jonathan Cape publishers, urged users to ‘Like’ the page – each Like would eliminate a little more wine from a wine bottle graphic, and when it was all over, the cover of the new Bridget Jones sequel would be revealed. Bridget, with her fondness for alcohol, couldn’t have imagined a better marketing tactic herself.
The cover for the new book, titled Mad About The Boy, reveals what many had been speculating – turns out that Bridget Jones is now a mother. The cover photo shows a woman perched on a bar stool, her back to the viewer. Her hand is at her mouth – as though she might be smoking, a habit Bridget never fully managed to kick.
Scattered around her feet are a pair of towering stilettos and toys – a dinosaur, a giraffe and a teddy bear. If the stilettos and the brief book excerpt provided by the publisher is anything to go by, having a child hasn’t changed much for the ‘chicklit’ protagonist. Read the excerpt below:

You see, this is the trouble with the modern world. If it was the days of letter-writing, I would never have started to find his address, a pen, a piece of paper, an envelope, a stamp, and gone outside at 11.30pm to find a postbox. A text is gone at the brush of a fingertip, like a nuclear bomb or exocet missile.
