A tale of resilience: The inspiring story of para athlete Manasi joshi

The Humans of Bombay page, an imitation of the world famous  “Humans of New York” page, recently posted the story of National Badminton champion Manasi Joshi, who refused to give up on her dreams despite the obstacles. [caption id=“attachment_2540712” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Image from Humans of Bombay page.[/caption] “I was on my way to work on a two wheeler one day when a trucked rammed into me and completely crushed my leg. It wasn’t the driver’s fault - there was a pillar which hindered his vision. People around immediately took me to the hospital and even though it happened around 9:30 am I was only operated upon at 5:30 pm. The doctors tried to save my leg but after a few days it got infected and I had to be amputated. When the doctor told me, I asked him ‘why did you take so long? I knew for a while that this would happen (sic)" said the Facebook post. The Facebook post, published just 20 hours ago, has now amassed more than 73,000 likes and has gotten more than 13,000 shares. Not only did Joshi go on to win the silver medal in the Para Badminton World Championship held in England this year but she also has trained for five hours a day, while juggling her job as a software engineer. She has almost completed her Scuba Diving training and has travelled pretty much all over India. Her sister Nupur Joshi also commented on the post saying, “I am so proud of you - Guys, in last 9 months she has traveled to 11 different places to either participate in tournaments or explore new cities/villages.__” While another Facebook user pointed out that, “She starts the story with, “it was not his fault”. Tremendous perspective, in times when most of us want to play victims.” Think your life is bad? Well, here’s the inspiration you need to keep going.
