Ten ways in which relationships bring out the best in us

“The best love is the one that makes you a better person, without changing you into someone other than yourself.” Isn’t it what we all want? From the day we open our eyes to the world, we seek love, companionship and happiness. We yearn to express our feelings. But, this is only possible when we are with our near and dear ones, with the best of our relationships, where we feel loved and nurtured like none other. This feeling transforms us in unimaginable ways by teaching us valuable life lessons. Here are a few:

If we have people around us who would love us no matter what and make us feel valued and important, we have a lot to learn from them. They make us believe in true love – one which does not thrive on a give and take relationship and fake exchange of pleasantries.

Understanding and valuing trust

Trust is that million-dollar worth feeling that only a valuable relationship can make us understand. Such relationships nurture our loyalty and make us ready for the leap of faith at any given point in life. They teach us what we cannot learn in any school or institution.

Feeling secure and guarded

Some relationships garner opposing emotions of envy and admiration, competition and support, love and hate - they can be our biggest nemesis and our greatest boon at the same time. But, most of all, they make us feel guarded and nothing feels safer than their mere presence. Theirs is a promise of everlasting protection and togetherness.

Friendship and the concept of sharing

The first step towards friendship and sharing secrets comes with some relationships which are for a lifetime. Basking in the comfort of this love-hate relationship, we learn the basics of friendship, of earning a confidante and the value of an everlasting friend. Growing up would never have been so interesting, if not for these relations. The wisdom that we gain and share here is a bonus.

The feelings of mutual respect, equality, sharing and caring is something we all learn from some valuable relationships we come to make as we grow up and even after we have. If you can never abandon someone having a tough time, it is because you have had at least one such valuable relationship. Most importantly, we learn to respect others and earn it at the same time, only because we have such people around us.

Selfless affection is for real

Some people just come along the way to help us become wiser but what they teach us is something we will never learn from books or movies. They rejuvenate our spirit, make us feel pure joy, inspire us, make us express better, listen patiently, gain confidence and not to forget, teach us to be ourselves and to be independent even in togetherness. They make us realize that happiness comes from within and selfless affection IS THERE FOR REAL!

Forgiveness is must

Healthy relationships, be it with our parents, siblings, friends or partners, teach us a lot about forgiving and forgetting. Moving on in life by focusing on the greener side of things and letting go of grudges is the essence of life and is also one of the best things we can ever learn from relationships. Forgiving does not come easy especially when someone shames you with their words or actions, but it is a trait well needed.

Realize your self-worth

“Sometimes we depend on other people as a mirror – to define us and let us see who we truly are and each reflection lets us like ourselves a little more.” This quote sums it up for why relationships can be good for our self-esteem and self-image. Good or bad, relationships teach us a lot about ourselves and enhance our personalities. They are our all-time cheerleaders!

Accept a little more

When we understand that our parents, friends, partner and other people around us are all different people, we also have to learn to accept them with their strengths and weaknesses, their past and present, their oddities and talents.

Fighting with dignity and apologizing like you mean it

With differently-opinionated people around us, it is always a given that relationships would include fights, arguments and apologies. But only with relationships, do we learn to fight fair and agree to disagree as also learn how a real apology sounds like.

These relationships make & define us as who we really are, and we should do everything to nurture them. A small but crucial step can be safeguarding our loved one’s dreams and future by insuring life. Now buying an insurance plan online is a much simpler task, which will also be light on your pocket. One such online policy is the HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Plus that also provides feature through which you can increase your life cover at different lifestages such as marriage, child birth etc.
