Special trading: Sensex ends in green, Maruti up ahead of results

Private banks lifted spirits of the market after good results from both ICICI Bank and Axis Bank.

Special trading: Sensex ends in green, Maruti up ahead of results

In a special trading session today both Sensex and Nifty ended in the green supported by PSU stocks, metals, banks and real estate. However, big names like Reliance Industries, TCS, Infosys, L&T and Bharti Airtel fell due to which the Sensex was up just 53 points at 17,187, while the Nifty closed 18 points higher at 5,209.

Private banks lifted spirits of the market after good results from both ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. ICICI Bank ended the day up 0.95 percent after it ended up almost 3 percent yesterday. Axis Bank ended 1.58 percent higher while HDFC Bank was up 0.53 percent.

Auto major Maruti Suzuki was up 1.3 percent ahead of fourth quarter numbers today. Moneycontrol reports analysts on average expect the top car maker to report a growth of 2.5 times quarter-on-quarter in its net profit of Rs 530 crore.

Hindustan Copper ended as the top gainer, up 14.76 percent. after there were reports of the government’s plans to divest 9.59 percent in Hindustan Copper via Institutional Placement or OFS (offer for sale).

All the indices ended in the green though oil and gas, and capital goods were almost flat.

Apollo Tyres and Crisil were top losers of the day, down around 1.5 percent each.

However, TCS, Reliance Industries, L&T, Coal India and Tata Power were down 0.2-0.6 percent.
