30 is like the big, dreadful number that brings along a lot of questions, complexities and even some life-changing decisions. It is a turning point of life when we feel a strong urge to think of our future seriously and accomplish something that we can be proud of.
In our 20s, we are still acclimatizing ourselves to growing up: from changing jobs, thinking of starting something fresh to going for blind dates or rebound relationships. As they say “your 20s are your selfish years: old enough to make the right decisions and young enough to make the wrong ones.”
But as the late 20s set in, goals that we had set early on in life get lost somewhere in the rat race for success. Dreams of exotic travels or wish to learn a new art start coming to us again like memories from a forgotten time.
So, before you prepare yourself for the major milestone in your life, here are some experiences you should not want to give a miss:
Find your passion
When we work on something that comes purely naturally to us, jobs do not feel like a mundane thing. It is good to find out what one’s true calling is, before reaching 30 – that way one has a lot of time in hand to build a career and carve a niche with heartfelt passion. Gear up for some inspiration and motivate yourself for your dream job before the thirties strike you.
Travel to exotic places. ALONE.
Solo travels help one learn to manage things independently and come out a winner. The art of survival needs to be mastered and it can only be done when you have to fend for yourself and all the better if it is a foreign country or some exotic place you have always yearned to visit. Travel abroad alone before the big Three-Zero. Meet new people and learn about new cultures before career, kids and family occupies your life.
Have more connections and better network
As you meet and interact with new people, you grow both personally and professionally. Your phonebook list increases and you are more active on social networks. The more people you know, the merrier it gets as you start valuing relationships and develop people skills. You may meet many people in your thirties but, your 20s are the best time when you feel the energy and zest to know more and be more.
Master a new language or skill
Learn any new language (it can be a foreign or vernacular language) and aim at speaking and writing it flawlessly. Not only will it add up to your skills but the new language may also come handy for your future. If not this, experiment making new dishes or maybe even cook one to perfection. Learn swimming, driving and other necessary skills before you lose the drive in you.
Get back to a healthy you
Shed those extra pounds and feel good in your physique and skin. Meet a fitter you with a glowing, radiant skin before you start ageing so that you can embrace your thirties and not think it to be a pile on.
Spend on a hobby
If you have always loved ballet dancing or collecting foreign currency, spend some real currency on the hobby after you identify what you love to do for your sense of fulfillment, to practice it as a hobby. This can help you be yourself, relax and also connect with others better.
Read as many books you can
Read and read some more – if you enjoy reading books. Pick up the first on your pile and gain insights on life that will help form your own beliefs and make you your own person.
Get your adrenaline pumping
Try unusual sports or go for your favorite rock band concert that will rejuvenate and energize you for a fresh start. You can even run the marathon, go for skydiving, bungee jumping or parasailing for that matter. But do something crazy, exciting and off the edge before turning 30.
Invest and Insure!
While splurging on extravagant possessions, we forget the fact that life is unpredictable and if we plan to shift our career path or make that much-needed trip with friends, we need some savings as well. So, invest a part of your earnings, even if it is a meager amount, to live a more stress-free life. A term or life Insurance is yet another important milestone we need to achieve before we leave our twenties. Though all of us don’t understand its importance, a life insurance not only helps us enjoy all our splurges fearlessly and spend on hobbies without anxiety, it also helps us plan our future ahead.
As we approach the 30s, the thought of getting married and starting a family crosses one’s mind. Many even get married before they reach their 30s. Investing in an economic insurance policy like HDFC Life insurance will rest all your concerns and let you prepare your family’s future in advance. Added advantage is the sooner you buy a policy the lower are your premiums. One can get a life cover of Rs 1 Cr @ Rs 18/Day* itself with HDFC Life Click2ProtectPlus Plan.
So, how many ideas from the list would you tick off before your 30th birthday?
