The income tax department has extended the deadline for filing of returns only for Uttarakhand residents in view of the large-scale devastation that the state witnessed due to the flashfloods last month.
The new deadline has been extended to 31 October. The extension has offered under section 119 of the Indian Income-Tax Act, said a circular posted on the IT department's website. Read whole circular here.
Last year due to the power grid failure, the Income Tax department had extended the deadline to file returns until 31 August for the whole country.
