Indian police detain Yasin Malik (C, wearing cap), the chairman of the separatist Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) party, during a protest in Srinagar January 6, 2012. Indian police in Srinagar on Friday detained Malik along with six other activists as they tried to hold a protest against the death of Kashmiri student Altaf Ahmad Sood earlier this week, local media reported. Sood was killed and two others injured on Monday when India’s Central Industries Security Force personnel guarding the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation opened fire on people protesting against power shortage in the Boniyar area of North Kashmir, local media added.
