Anna Hazare has called on his supporters to refrain from using violence against media persons and threatened to call off his Lokpal movement if such behavior persisted.
Around 150-200 people present at Jantar Mantar, the venue of the protest by Anna Hazare, allegedly broke down barricades and manhandled media persons late on Monday night.
“I am saddened by reports of violence. There should be no bad behavior. I am introspecting and asking why this is happening. Have I done something wrong?”, he said in an address at Jantar Mantar.
The altercation took place after Team Anna member Shanti Bhushan claimed that media was not giving proper coverage to the protest.
Hazare said it was sad that the media was writing him off when he had fought for a Lokpal for 25 years but said that he had never blamed them for taking such a stance.
He added that there was more power in non violence, and added that if his supporters insisted on resorting to violence the government had the ability to crush their movement in two days.
Anna’s statement comes in the wake of a similar statement by Arvind Kejriwal who apologized to the media and said they had done nothing wrong in their coverage of the protest.
