Mumbai terror attack conspirator David Headley, who had surveyed most of the 26/11 targets, may be extradicted to India.
US Under Secretary Wendy Sherman said that India’s request for his extradition is under consideration.
Headley had conspired with Lashkar-e-Taiba to launch the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
CNN-IBN reported US Under Secretary Wendy Sherman as saying, “The US acknowledges Hafiz Saeed is mastermind of 26/11 attacks. President Barack Obama is determined, US will bring Hafiz Saeed to justice.”
India had requested Headley’s extradiction earlier this year. The move came a month after the National Investigation Agency chargesheeted LeT operative Headley, Hafiz Saeed, Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Headley’s accomplice and Pakistani-Canadian Tahawwur Rana and al-Qaeda operative Illyas Kashmiri for plotting terror attacks in India including the 26/11 strikes.
Headley had conspired with Lashkar-e-Taiba to launch the 2008 Mumbai attacks. He had made many visits to India before the 26/11 attacks.
Ajmal Kasab and nine other terrorists had launched an attack in Mumbai on 26 November, 2008. They went on an indiscriminate shooting spree in places including the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, the Trident Hotel and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
