Guwahati: Three people were injured in a grenade attack by suspected militants in Bongaigaon town in Assam's Bongaigaon district Tuesday evening, police said.
The blast took place under the Bir Chilarai overbridge in the town.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) L.R. Bishnoi said suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) team, who were frisking people at a mobile check post there.
The Assam Police had earlier intensified security across the state following interception of a message sent by the top brass of the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) to target security forces across the state.
Militants belonging to anti-talk faction of the Ulfa triggered an IED blast at Doomdooma town in Tinsukia town Thursday last, injuring 12 people including three policemen.
On Saturday, the outfit triggered a grenade blast at Paltan Bazar in Guwahati, killing one CRPF personnel and injuring 12 others.
