Bassi Pathana: Accusing the Centre of benefiting from oil marketing companies by "arbitrarily hiking" fuel prices, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today demanded a transparent formula for fixation of price of petroleum products.
Badal told reporters here that NDA has been demanding that price fixation formula of petroleum products should be transparent so that people can know how much profit oil marketing companies were making at the cost of common man and how the Congress-led UPA government was becoming a "willing partner in mass-fleecing exercise".
He said when international crude prices were touching record low due to Euro crisis, India is the only country that has made steepest hike in the price of petrol.
Questioning the free pricing formula, Badal asked as to why multi-national companies failed to lower the price, whenever crude price falls in the international market.
Badal, who was here for giving away prizes to the winners of National Sub-Junior Under-14 Girls Hockey Championship, said the state government has taken a major initiative in sports infrastructure development with construction or upgradation of 6 international level hockey stadiums and 8 multi-purpose sports stadiums together costing over Rs 200 crore.
He said the government has chalked out an ambitious plan to set up sports schools at each district headquarters and a stadium in every block.
