Madhya Pradesh CM, governor mourn Deshmukh’s demise

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today condoled the death of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

“The country has lost a person with immense possibilities and a politician with a leadership quality,” the governor said in his condolence message.

Remembering Deshmukh as very “sensitive and amicable” person, Chouhan said that he did many developmental works in Maharashtra and in the country.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh also condoled the death of Deshmukh describing him as “personal friend and a very able leader”.

“Deshmukh was dedicated for the welfare of the people. His works as Maharashtra Chief Minister and as Union Minister will always be remembered,” Digvijay said.

Opposition Leader Ajay Singh said the country has lost an able leader in Deshmukh.

We have lost a generous, charismatic leader: Chavan

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has condoled the death of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, saying the State has lost a generous and charismatic leader.

“We have lost a generous and charismatic leader. It’s a big loss to our State. I have lost a friend,” Chavan said said in a statement in Mumbai.

“In fact, we never saw Vilasrao sick or nervous. He always stood gracefully and tall in any situation and faced challenges with smile on his face. He was not only popular in the (Congress) party but had friends in Opposition too.

“Hence, all of us were upset when we heard the news of about his illness. Today in the afternoon, we were shocked after listening about his sad demise.”

“Last week I had visited the hospital in Chennai where Vilasrao was undergoing treatment and discussed with doctors about his recovery. We were hopeful about his liver transplantation surgery. But unfortunately all the efforts went in vain,” the chief minister said.

“I knew him for many years. With his outlook and vision he reached to the higher positions in the party. Since beginning of his political career he worked hard and won the confidence of party leaders. He will be always remembered for his leadership quality and generosity,” Chavan maintained.

His journey from the post of a Sarpanch to the chief minister was an inspirational success story for every politician. He had a vision for development of Maharashtra and dreamt of making Mumbai as a world-class city, he said.

Describing Deshmukh as a real mass leader, Home Minister RR Patil said the State has suffered an irreparable loss with the sudden demise of the Congress veteran.

Talking to reporters in Gadchiroli district, he said the former chief minister provided a stable leadership to Maharashtra during difficult times like 26/11 terrorist attack and July 2005 Mumbai floods.

Recalling his long association with Deshmukh, the NCP leader said he took criticism in his stride and won over political opponents also.

Mukul Sangma condoles Vilasrao’s demise

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today condoled the death of the Union Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

In his condolence message, Sanger said Deshmukh would always be remembered as a prominent leader, respected for his valuable and dedicated service rendered to the state of Maharashtra and the nation as a whole.

Terming the passing away of Deshmukh as a great loss to the nation and the people of Maharashtra in particular, Sangma expressed his condolence to the bereaved family.

Odisha

Naveen Patnaik mourns Vilasrao’s death

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today condoled the death of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and described him as an efficient leader and administrator.

“Deshmukh was an efficient leader and administrator. He undertook different developmental programmes both as chief minister of Maharashtra and as a union minister,” Patnaik said in a message.

Describing Deshmukh as popular among politicians cutting across party lines, Patnaik said his death was a national loss.

Jharkhand

Munda condoles Deshmukh’s death

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda today expressed deep grief at the passing away of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The “socio-political march” from panchayat to Parliament of the former Maharastra chief minister would remain ever memorable, Munda said in his brief condolence message.

Deshmukh passed away in a hospital in Chennai following a liver ailment earlier in the day.

Condoling Deshmukh’s death, Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed, officials and freedom fighters observed two minutes silence at the state’s second capital, Dumka.

Assam

Gogoi condoles Deshmukh’s death

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today condoled the death of Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

“In Deshmukh’s death, we have lost an able politician, administrator and a dedicated social worker”, Gogoi said in a statement today.

As a Union minister and Maharashtra chief minister, he had made significant contribution to the country and his death was an irreparable loss to the nation, he said.

The chief minister said that his heart-felt condolences were with the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
