Shaktiman, a police horse which lost its leg after being brutally beaten up, allegedly by BJP workers, is recovering well and will soon get a brand new prosthetic leg from the US, reports say.
The Times of India reports that the 14-year-old horse stood for nearly seven hours on Sunday and its wounds are being dressed twice a day.
The Indian Express says the new leg, which costs nearly $3000 is coming from the US in a week's time.
Jamie Vaughan, who runs a US-based NGO for veterinary care in Bhutan, was at Reserve Police Lines in Dehradun to help Shaktiman soon after the animal's leg was amputated.
Jamie is reportedly powering efforts to get the artificial limb from a US firm.
Dr Phiroze Khambatta, Equine Ortho Surgeon of Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse conducted the surgery to amputate Shaktiman’s leg.
On her Facebook page, Vaughan has posted a small clip of Shaktiman after the amputation and then right on top, a meme with this message: "Eat your own leg, Leave mine alone ....". That's most likely for a horse beater in the BJP called Ganesh Joshi who may pass the newly minted nationalism test, but certainly not one for compassion.
