Seven more encephalitis deaths takes toll to 479

Gorakhpur: Seven more persons succumbed to encephalitis in a hospital here pushing the death toll due to the viral infection in Uttar Pradesh’s eastern region this year to 479, a senior health official said on Sunday.

All the seven deaths occurred at BRD Medical College Hospital since last evening, A K Pandey, Additional Director (Health), Gorakhpur, said.

With this, the death toll in Uttar Pradesh’s eastern region rose to 479 this year, he said.

Seventeen persons afflicted with the disease were also admitted to BRD MCH since last evening, he said.

Altogether 217 encephalitis patients were undergoing treatment at BRD MCH and adjoining district hospitals, Pandey said.
