The Supreme Court has pulled up Baba Ramdev for negligence and the Delhi police for not showing restraint when evicting the yoga guru and his followers from the Ramlila Maidan last year.
The court said that the yoga guru was guilty of negligence while organising a rally in June 2011, CNN-IBN reported.
The court has directed that compensation should be paid by the government and Ramdev to the family of Rajbala, a woman who died during the police action. The court directed them to pay Rs five lakh to her family.
The court also said that compensation should be paid to those who were injured.
The court said that the yoga guru should have vacated the Ramlila maidan when he was instructed by the police.
The Delhi police could have used restraint while evicting those present at the rally given it wasn’t an emergency situation, the court said.
According to the channel, the court said that the police had acted in high-handed manner.
The court has also directed the Delhi government and Commissioner of Delhi police to ensure that criminal prosecution is initiated against police officials who acted with negligence while evicting the people assembled at the ground.
