A 20-year-old call centre employee was stabbed to death, allegedly by a jilted lover, in New Ashok Nagar of East Delhi on Monday.

The incident took place when Neha Yadav, a resident of Kondli, was on her way to neighbouring Noida along with team head Gaurav Karodia in his car around 5 pm.

They were passing through a timber market in Dallupura when Devender (24),  who was riding a motorcycle, intercepted the vehicle. He forced the victim out of the car and then allegedly stabbed her several times with a knife.

The woman received three injuries on her thighs, while her friend identified as Gaurav, 24, also injured in the incident, police said.

Devender was arrested after a short chase.

The girl was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) hospital where doctors declared her dead.

During interrogation, Devender, a driver by profession, disclosed that he lived a few houses away from Neha and claimed to be in love with her. He said the woman's family had rejected his match on the grounds of caste. The police suspect that this irked Devender and he decided to kill Neha after he learnt that she had purportedly become friends with her team head Gaurav.

The police have registered a murder case against Devender and collected evidence, including his clothes, for forensic examination.
