It’s probably the expertise that comes from running a hugely successful yoga empire, but whatever the reason, the scale and level of sheer planning and logistics behind Baba Ramdev‘s Ramlila Maidan protest is nothing short of impressive.
Be it food, information, medicine or even bathing facilities – Team Ramdev has it all covered.
Volunteers are present throughout the venue including near the gates, where they are handing out registration forms to people lining up to get in.
The volunteers also help fill out the forms, which ask for details like name, address, age, where they are from, and contact details.
Inside the grounds there are as many as seven information booths, with one booth just to tell people where the food, drink and toilets are. This is on a much larger scale than at Team Anna‘s recent protest which only had three information booths in total.
Apart from food and drinking water, there are also 15 toilets and portable bathrooms (with attached clotheslines) for people wishing to wash away the grime of overnight train journeys. A first aid booth with both allopathic and acupressure options is also on the site.
The maidan, where yoga guru Ramdev is holding a three day symbolic fast demanding the return of black money, a stronger Lokpal and greater transparency in the appointments of key positions like the elections commissioner and CAG, is full of his supporters. Some news reports put the number at 15,000 while others say the number is less than that.
The mood inside the Maidan is festive, with supporters singing, dancing and waving flags.
