Rajnath Singh says that police stations should be modernised

New Delhi: Emphasising that investigation plays an important role in ensuring justice to the victim, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that police stations must be modernised as the initial investigation takes place there.

"We have to modernise police stations to ensure effective investigation," the Home Minister said after inaugurating a two-day national conference of investigators.

He also asked police forces across the country to treat victims and witnesses "well" as they come seeking justice to them.

"The victim and the witness should be treated well by police," he said, adding that the central government has taken various steps to ensure speedy justice to victims.

Talking about the first investigators' conference, the minister said that it is a "good chance" to discuss ways and means to improve overall level of investigation, as it plays a decisive role in delivering justice.

Rajnath Singh also reiterated the government's resolve to fight terrorism and finish the menace.

He termed crime a result of "distorted mentality" and said prevention of crime should be given higher priority by the security agencies.

Rajnath Singh also announced that the Home Ministry will start awarding medals to around 150 to 200 investigating officers every year for their good work.

The conference, aimed to discuss investigation in economic, cyber and organised crimes, is being attended by officials from the central government and the states.

The Bureau of Police Research and Development and the National Investigation Agency have organised the conference.
