Pulwama encounter: One militant killed in fierce gunbattle with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir

A Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama on Monday.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Samboora village late last night following information about presence of militants there, a police official said.

The search party of forces was fired upon by militants triggering a gunbattle, the official said.

One militant was killed in the encounter, he said adding that the militant has been identified as Umer from LeT's Abu Ismail faction," the official said.

One AK-47 rifle was recovered from the encounter site, the official added.

On Sunday, the police confirmed the Abu Ismail group's involvement in the 10 July attack on an Amarnath Yatra bus in which eight pilgrims were killed.
